Human drama behind baseball life

How did you find the manga?

Chiami
I saw the anime version on TV. I was watching with my dad, and both me and my dad loved it!

Did you like Baseball?

Chiami
Not really…I began to like baseball after I read Major. This manga is so good not just because of baseball, but the relationship between Goro and his teammates is also very interesting.

I see.

Thanks Chiami for introducing this manga deeply!

If you play baseball or even if you don’t, check it out! You’ll love it!

Never give up

Did this manga change your life in any way?

Chiami
Can I talk about me a bit?

-Please!

Chiami
I started competitive dance when I was three. I wanted to be like my mom who was on a team of competitive dance and I’ve been dancing since then.
Chiami
I entered Keio University to dance. One of my high school friend’s sisters was on the competitive dance team at Tokyo University. Tokyo University and Keio University are often in the same competition, so I decided to enter Keio. (I liked Keio’s symbol better, too.)
Chiami
I joined a dance team and practiced everyday. However, I got an injury on my shoulder and the doctor told me to stop dancing. I danced even after the warning I got from the doctor. That made my injury so painful, and the doctor said to me, “If you keep doing it, you will not be able to use chopsticks.” That’s why I had to leave the dance team.

-That must have been a tough time for you…how does Major relate to your experiences?

Chiami
Goro, the main character of Major and I had a similar injury. Goro had a surgery and it succeeded. However, I didn’t do it because the doctor told me that there was 50/50 chance that the surgery could fail.
Chiami
There are two types of competitive dance: Standard and Latin. Standard requires you to hold hands with your partner, but you can dance freely in Latin dance.
Chiami
I didn’t want to give up dancing, so I chose to dance Latin which didn’t need to use my arms so frequently.

Major might have encouraged you not to give up on your dream.

Chiami
Exactly. Major was the first sports manga I read and it still is the one which changed my life. I’m a very stubborn person that doesn’t want to give up once I’ve committed to something. I was influenced by Goro.

Thank you, Chiami! We learned about Major and Chiami a lot! Whether you like baseball or not, give it a try!
